Direct answer
These are three different things, each handling a different link in the money chain.
Same-name local account = an account opened by a bank or payment institution, in the name of your approved Brazilian CNPJ or CPF holder. It receives platform settlement proceeds.
BRL Wallet = a dedicated bookkeeping balance that NexaPay allocates to you under your merchant entity, used to record and manage BRL. It is not a bank account, and its nature differs from an account held under a CNPJ / CPF.
Overseas settlement account = your own approved overseas account, which receives the converted USD and settles funds back to your own operating entity.
In one line: the same-name local account receives platform sales proceeds, the Wallet records and manages the business balance, and the overseas settlement account receives the converted settlement funds.
The three side by side
Boundaries of responsibility
NexaPay does not act as a bank and does not make account approval decisions on behalf of partner banks or payment institutions. A same-name local account is reviewed, opened and maintained independently by the applicable institution under its own rules.
The Wallet is a bookkeeping balance that NexaPay allocates to you under your merchant entity, used to record and manage BRL. It is not a bank account. When you need a genuine bank or payment account to receive external funds, the same-name local account is the one that applies.
How the money moves between the three
- Platform settlement enters the same-name local accountThe platform pays the sales proceeds into the merchant’s CNPJ / CPF same-name account by PIX or TED, under its own rules.
- BRL is recorded in the Wallet and can be managedMerchants can check the BRL balance in the portal and request a conversion quote. The Wallet is the record and management vehicle for the funds balance; it is not itself an account that receives external funds.
- Local payments run through PIXPay real local operating expenses in BRL by PIX Key and PIX QR Code. Initiating TED or Boleto payments is not supported at present.
- ConversionBRL and USD convert in both directions, 24×7.
- USD is settled to the overseas accountTypically on T+1 after the conversion is confirmed, to the approved overseas company account or the company owner’s personal account.
Common misunderstandings
Misunderstanding“The Wallet is also a bank account”
It is not. The Wallet is a dedicated bookkeeping balance allocated by NexaPay under your merchant entity, and its nature is different from a bank or payment account held under your CNPJ or CPF. When you need a genuine bank or payment account, the same-name local account is the one that applies.
Misunderstanding“With a Wallet I do not need a local account”
They handle different links. The Wallet records and manages the BRL balance; the same-name local account receives the sales proceeds the platform pays out under its settlement rules. If your business includes platform payouts, you need a same-name local account to receive them; if you only take payment links that buyers pay voluntarily, no platform settlement proceeds are involved.
Misunderstanding“The same-name account is opened by NexaPay”
The account is reviewed and opened independently by the applicable partner bank or payment institution. NexaPay submits the documents online and provides operational support; it does not make the approval decision on the institution’s behalf.
Misunderstanding“The local account can pay TED bills directly”
It cannot. TED is supported only as a credit method; outgoing payments support PIX Key and PIX QR Code only.
Real limits
- Approval is not NexaPay’s decision — whether an application is approved, and the account’s capabilities and limits, are decided independently by the account provider under the applicable regulation, its internal policies and the merchant’s documents.
- The local entity cannot be skipped — a Brazilian company cannot be the direct onboarding entity for Brazilian cross-border collection business; a non-Brazilian company has to onboard and complete KYB.
- A CPF is reviewed too — the CPF route is live and already in use by merchants, but it still has to pass the applicable institution’s review, so it is not approved automatically.
- Timing is “typically”, not “guaranteed” — USD typically arrives on T+1 and PIX credits are usually real time. Actual timing still depends on the payer and the settlement chain.
